10 Biggest Sales Mistakes to Avoid

I want you to keep an open mind because sales will connect the dots for you.

This past weekend my team and I went to intense sales training. In addition, we did a 10 X business boot camp with Grant Cardone.

Mistake #1: Leaving Money on the Table

Many people don’t realize that pricing is related to sales. So first, we make sure that you’re on par, and then we get you selling with scripts. Then we teach you prospecting, objection, handling, and closing.

I have to make sure you’re appropriately priced because if these three things are not in place, it doesn’t matter how many scripts I give you. So you’re not closing anybody.

Mistake #2: Not Knowing Your Audience

So many people do not know their audience, and it completely fucks up their sales. When you don’t know whom you’re selling to, you can’t identify their pain points to make an argument for the potential client to purchase what you’re offering.

Mistake #3: Embracing Imposter Syndrome

Many women feel that they aren’t worthy of what they’re doing or feel they’re not worth charging high dollar amounts. All this comes down to imposter syndrome.

So many women think that if the service they are offering is simple, basic, fun, and easy for me, I can’t possibly make money doing this. Sometimes you feel that you’re a fraud and that you’re going to get found out. It doesn’t matter how many accolades or degrees you may have; imposter syndrome can creep into your mindset.

As women, we feel that we need to have everything perfect before we can launch, which is a huge detriment because women do a better job. They’re more efficient than men at work, and they’re holding themselves back with this train of thought.

Mistake #4: Not Asking for More Money

As a former recruiter, I’ve seen guys ask for more money. I never saw a woman ask for more money in the years I was working as a recruiter, and I think this is a huge mistake. Make sure not to discount yourself, your talent, or your abilities. Ask for more money when selling your product or service.

Mistake #5: Your Service or Product Isn’t Fixing a Problem

You need to get your clients results by fixing a problem for them. That’s the only reason people buy anything is to fix a problem. Even when it comes to leisure items, you’re still solving a problem in some way, shape, or form. That’s the only reason consumers purchase it is to solve problems.

Mistake #6: Relying on Your Coaching Certifications

Those of you who are relying on your coaching certifications to get sales, you’re going to have a difficult time. No one gives a shit about your credentials. No one’s ever asked me if I’m certified, which I am, but no one cares. Instead, people ask me what results can you get me? It would help if you started getting yourself into business training to learn business development, market research, marketing, and sales from A to Z.

Do you see them? Do you fix their problem? How do you fix their problem? That’s what they want to know, and that’s what you need to know to help you sell.

Mistake #7: Waiting for Leads to Come to You

I see so many people wait for leads. There’s a “build it and they will come” mentality. Not how that works. What ends up happening is that you end up sitting on leads. You haven’t been taught how to be proactive in sales. You’ve been shown how to write emails, evergreen funnels, and put the course on the website. Then you feel that people will show up and buy your products.

People aren’t going to buy from an email or a sales page magically. Not if you’re making a high ticket sale, that will require a conversation with somebody. Number two, even if you’re doing low ticket, you’re going to have to run paid advertising to make that work and engineer the traffic. Number three, posting on Instagram won’t get you sales.

Never wait for people to come to you. People in sales go after the opportunity. They don’t wait for people to show up.

Mistake #8: Pricing at a Lower Price will Bring in More Sales

I’ve seen so many salespeople make the mistake of thinking that because you price something at a lower price, then it’s going to be easier to sell.

That’s not true at all.

The higher the price, the easier it is to sell. It’s a whole bunch easier because you pick up better clients. They’re not penny-pinching because they understand that they are investing in their business or themselves, and they know that you have the tools to get them where they need to be. They’re willing to do whatever it takes to get the results, making these clients more fun.

Mistake #9: You Don’t Have the Proper Business Structure

So many people in business don’t have the proper business structure to get the sales you need or the cash flow you need. I’m talking to those of you who are stuck doing one-on-one work or done-for-you services.

As soon as I transitioned my own business out of this business model, I doubled my revenue in 12 months. So what did I do? Why suddenly, could I make $10,000 in cash in two weeks? Whereas before, I would have to work my ass off to make that it all came down to the business structure in a month.

People who have joined Persuade for Profit have been doing one-on-one work for a while, and they’re burning the hell out. They’re booked and busy, but they’re working 24/7, and they feel like they have to light the first business on fire and start a second model for them to gain their freedom back.

Mistake #10: Giving Up Too Easily

The final mistake is that people give up too damn quickly when it comes to sales. When they don’t get results right away, they get upset. So ensure to follow through and understand that you’ll have to contact potential clients three, four, maybe five times before they sign on with you.

Remember, no one is born knowing sales. You have to find the information for yourself. I’ve been in sales since I was 20, and I still train every fucking day. I get better every single day. Last week I closed $20,000 in sales – I couldn’t do that a few years ago, and I did that in 24 hours last week.

Because I have trained for sales, I know that I can’t let up on the practice and the consistency of this particular skill set. If you have not gotten help learning this skill set, check out my Persuade to Profits program, where you’ll learn fundamental sales skills to take you to the next level.
