Activating and Scaling Your Business Model with Fabienne Fredrickson

My recent chat with Fabienne Fredrickson was a blast! Fabienne is an expert at scaling businesses and I wanted to share with you her insights on how to build and scale with Fabienne.

For the past two decades, Fabienne has been a business mentor to thousands of women business owners, as the founder of boldheart.com. The Bold Heart Business Program is based on her experience and has created a model that predictably helps you grow your revenue from five to six figures consistently.  Her program also teaches you how to leverage your six-figure to seven figures.

Fabienne likes to say that she sprinkled self-worth teachings on top of all the business teachings as one-word fairy dust. Not only does she teach you to fight self-doubt, but she also shows her clients how to become infinitely more confident as a woman, the importance of believing in yourself, valuing your unique brilliance, and getting out of your comfort zone so you can succeed at a much bigger level in your business.

The Leveraged Business

Fabienne Fredrickson is the author of the new book, The Leveraged Business, which I have absolutely devoured to find out more about scaling. She started scaling her business as she soon hit a roadblock with time. “I could not grow because there was no more time and no more of me to go around.”

After scaling, Fabienne was able to double and triple her business, earning seven figures in 2008. At this point, she only works about two or three hours a day while maintaining multiple seven figures.

Start with a Positive Shift in Mindset

If you want to scale, the first item you need to start with is feeling that you are worthy of participating at this higher level of business, says Fabienne. Throwing more time towards your business to make it grow isn’t a well-thought-out plan. To succeed, you need to scale, which entails creating processes, systems, and strategies that will boost your business.

“Even when my business model was leveraged, I still held the belief that every single client needed an hour a week with me, and pulling yourself out of being overly accessible in your business is excruciating.”

She reminds us that we can’t make everybody happy. “You’re going to have to disappoint somebody, if not a lot of people. The sooner you can build in a leveraged business model, the sooner you can leverage a team and set boundaries around your time with your family and friends. You make and leverage your time by setting firm boundaries. And part of that means that you have to be okay with not being liked all the time.

Exponential Growth Activities

These activities are the ones you usually don’t have time to work on because they take several hours. The more EG activities you can set up from the beginning, the faster you will scale to six or seven figures.

You need to find your visioning strategy – the projects that will catapult you onto the big stage. Remember, these activities can take months or sometimes years to complete. These scaling processes also take a different kind of thinking. “It’s about predicting yourself into the future.”

Fabienne stresses that we have been socialized ‘to be nice’ and to say yes to any request made of us as women. Women need to pivot and put a line in the sand. Prioritizing is extremely important if you want to scale. “If I’m putting everybody else’s needs before my own, when is my life going to be about me? I know how incredibly arrogant and selfish that can sound. What I see women doing all the time is putting everybody else’s needs and preferences before their own, to their detriment.”

“There’s a point at which you have to say, this is my business and this is what I’m doing – unapologetically.”

Bump Up Your Self-Worth if You Want to Scale Your Company

She reminds us that it comes down to an issue of self-worth and believing that you are innately valuable. Remember, you don’t need to be liked to be a nice person. “The majority of people love me rather than dislike me.” If you like and appreciate yourself, accept yourself ‘as is’ with blemishes. It doesn’t matter whether you are okay with me because I’m okay with me.

Fabienne’s advice is to set up your business and life around strong standards for what’s acceptable and not acceptable. Make sure to uphold your value system with solid boundaries.

Support Feminine Energy and Women In Business

If you run into a whiner and complainer client, it’s best to let them go. She says that they don’t get the significance and love anywhere else in their life, so they will gripe at you. When you are working on yourself, you can increase your mindset, which results in better financial results. This is why that the people who are more advanced in their mindset usually make more money.

“The reason I live in Paris, is that Paris is a feminine country – and here the feminine is revered, not just women, but all things feminine. In many Anglo-Saxon countries all around the world, the feminine is tolerated at best. Therefore, we need to encourage women to have their own business; because our society at large doesn’t have that high of an opinion of women.” She feels that women need to make their own money because she doesn’t need to depend on anybody when a woman has her own money. She has a voice and a choice.

Creating Activators to Grow Your Business

When she first envisioned activators, she came up with an image in her mind of eight light switches on a white wall in a dark room. This image translated into the business sense that when you are in a dark room and can’t see the switches, you can’t turn them on to see the light.

“But if we flip one switch on there’s a little bit more light in the room.” Now you can see more clearly. “Each of the leverage activators is part of those switches.” The more switches you flip on, the more precise you will be on making it to seven figures and getting your life back.

Activator #1: Leverage Your Team. If you think there’s such a thing as a self-made millionaire, think again! You need help to get to your goals. This could be mentorship, your belief system, or getting help from a team. “Most people don’t invest enough in their team because they’re hiring for where they are now, not for where they want to be.”

Activator #2:  Leverage Your System. Anything you’re doing more than once per year in your business needs a system around the activity.

Activator #3: Leverage Your Business Model. Lose the one-to-one and start creating group memberships to scale your business. If you do have a 1:1, charge accordingly. You need to start thinking about how you can show up and be on surround sound in your ideal client’s lives – without you doing the showing up yourself.

Activator #4: Leverage Your Accountability.

  1. Get your team to be held responsible in a loving way.
  2. Make everybody responsible for three to four daily tasks in addition to the regular list of responsibilities they were hired for.

Providing Value and Goal Setting

Your team has the responsibility to grow your business with you every month. You choose a target and reverse engineer responsibilities to meet your target. Everybody on your team is held responsible for your goals.

Remember to provide value that people can’t get anywhere else. Provide a feeling they can’t get from another business. This is part of the feminine energy, not just transactional.

Getting Over Your Fear of Sales by Surrendering with Caitlin Doemner

Caitlin is one of my sales trainers who I absolutely love! I recently completed her Referrals on Demand class, which was fabulous for so many reasons!

I’m always excited when I find another woman who’s really good at sales, which is why I had her as my featured guest.

How Caitlin Choose Sales as a Career

After receiving her Master’s degree, she tried many different entrepreneurial jobs, including real estate, residential care, and teaching art.

However, “I was perpetually failing at entrepreneurship.”

She then concluded that she could be a consultant because she now knew how to launch a business.

The Fear of Sales

“I hired a business coach and he liked what I was doing enough that he offered for me to work with him on his sales team.” But, having a fear of being on the phone, along with not liking sales,  he assigned her to his sales trainer Nate.

Nate instructed her to call people and see if they were interested. Then, she could book a call on the calendar, and Nate would close them. She thought, “I love getting to know people, hearing about their problems and connecting them with the solution. Little did I know that was selling. It was a referral that got me on the phone and we closed the deal over zoom.”

Funnels vs Phone

These days, consumers and business owners are getting savvier. They are aware of automated emails and sales pitches. So your best bet to land the sale is to pick up the phone and talk to your potential client.

Caitlin has seen this process work in action.

“In a recent campaign, 60% of the sales came in because the team picked up the phone and called. We more than doubled what the launch would have done, because we had a phone-based sales team.”

She recommends picking up the phone to call as the phone is a critical component.

Outreach on the Four Channels

The #1 digital marketing outreach you can find new clients is from posting on social media. Social media is fantastic for starting a conversation. At this point, you can bring them into your email list, to a phone call, then into snail mail. Use the channels that you’ve been given to reach them so that they hear you in all directions.

Remember, the hottest leads will come through referrals. When you do a good job and keep in touch with people through one of your four channels, then you can connect deeply with your people.

“And the beautiful thing is even if you’re brand new, that’s what you need to do to get the market research so that you can create an irresistible offer so that you can go and do outbound marketing.”

Changing Your Fear Mindset

If you are trying to sell with fear in your head, then you’ve got to fix your response.

“Recognize fear as resistance,” Caitlin says that anytime she is in a state of resistance, fear will show up. “When I know I need to make calls, but I’m washing my dishes, checking my email, or fixing my sales page, I’m experiencing resistance. Resistance can show up as procrastination. Make sure to acknowledge your fear, and then start dealing with it,” suggests Caitlin.

This will give you the ability to close bigger and better deals in your business.

Changing Your Mindset and Transformation

She emphasizes that to change your mindset, you’ll need to make space in your thought process.

“When you are holding sacred space for transformation,  the act of selling is changing their life and you guys need to own that at a gut level.”

Charging What You’re Worth

Charging what your worth is essential for giving your service value.  If you’re undercharging and you don’t know how to sell your shit in a way that people can hear you, then change your sales pitch in a way your potential customer will feel the value that you’re providing.

“You might be wonderful, but clients are buying the results you can create.” And then, you can tie those results to a quantifiable return on investment. Even if you’re selling happiness, right. Guaranteed. We can quantify happiness. Right. So it’s just, how do we figure out the results and find out some key metrics that you measure before they start your program and after they go through your program, So that you can say, this is the story arc.

When people aren’t closing, they think it’s a funnel problem. However, the issue lies in understanding people in your market and what you do for them. At this point, the most challenging part of sales is covered, which is confidence and conviction.

Are You Creating a Hobby or a Business?

To build a business, you need to get clear. Do you want a hobby or a profitable business?

Listen to what people tell you, and then give them what they actually need.

“They may think that they want sales, but they need good mindset. But you sell them sales and then give them mindset training.”

Caitlin suggests giving them the whole package and addressing the market need.

Open a Channel for Wisdom

An open channel for your wisdom and your passion gives you the ability to flow through your talents from yourself into the world. Right. “I am realizing it’s not me, it’s the great spirit that’s coming through me. And my job is to get out of the fucking way.”

Remember, you are the vessel for your message. You are the vessel, and that’s why you have to put yourself out there. Your gift to God is developing your talent, going out there, and developing your skillset to serve others.

Surrendering is part of being able to open a channel. “I only started this surrender experiment after reading The Surrender Experiment by Michael Singer over spring break.” This book was a game-changer for Caitlin because she asked God if she needed to do something different and leave her current position.

“When I came back from spring break after a week, I had 13 sales calls booked on my calendar. Within 30 days, I had closed $65,000 that had not been on my radar previously.” Caitlin says that every time she surrenders and lets go, the creator shows up ‘in such a big, fantastic way that for me, I’m wondering what else can I surrender?’

If you want to find out how you can achieve more sales through the mindset of surrendering, then check out Caitlin at Go Sales Map and find out how you can build your mindset and learn to delegate by joining the Make Money Your Honey Community and start building and scaling your company today!

Grit, Growth, and Goal-Planning with Violette De Ayala

Violet De Ayala was my first business mentor. A first-generation Cuban-American first-generation, Violet struggled to find her place in her new world.

“I had my first child when I was 22 years old and didn’t want to work in the corporate world.”

Instead, she thought about what business she could create for herself. “We grew up with stories about entrepreneurial people who made it to this country and kind of with little money and were able to create tremendous wealth and great businesses.”

Starting and Growing Businesses

Starting, growing, and scaling several businesses, Violet ended up in the coaching sector. She looks at life and understands that everything we need is out there. “When you are an immigrant, the narrative that you are acquiring, the stories being shared are of those people that arrived with nothing and achieved great success.” Many people will tell you that you’ll fail as an entrepreneur.

Finding Grit When You’re at the Bottom

In that darkness of being broken financially, you find beauty within yourself that inspires you to move up and keep on moving forward.

When you’re broken, that’s when you find and acquire that level of grit because you have no other option other than to fail.

The Importance of Systems

I tell my clients that y’all need systems. Take it from somebody who learned the hard way; otherwise, your business is going to turn into a dumpster fire. Oh man, that is not fun. To create systems from the beginning.

“So when you talk about scalability, you have so many different variations of scalability, but the one that I generally go to is how do you scale a brand that can serve over a million people around the world?”

“When you can add your process, procedures or streamlining, that’s when you’re on a good path to being scalable, meaning that it can duplicate itself over and over again, but it doesn’t add to your hours. The system doesn’t take away from your time, it lives beyond you.” You can literally step away for vacation, and your business will still run.

Developing my team and getting a whole group of people toward one vision and one goal is exciting! So how do we get clear on that vision and that goal so that we can show up with our mission and scale it out to a million people?

“So if I was Amanda, and I have this beautiful skill, talent, and wisdom that I’m sharing. I’m changing people’s lives. How big could this company possibly get? What’s the biggest way I can share my vision with the world?”

Violet says, once you have an idea, make sure all your action steps and words you’re using for your team align. You want to talk about your vision with your team. If you want your program to impact a million women, what does that look like? Your vision becomes part of your company DNA.

The team and the process we’ve put in place. You need to stick to that, and If you’re connected to that process, the holes don’t get bigger. You can use your systems and team to button them up.

Partnering and Cross-Promoting

Violet recommends forming partnerships. You can do this by helping other companies start their own chapters of your organization. Work with other companies to get them up and running, and then partner up so that you can serve them.

Goal Planning

Remember to reverse-engineer when you are goal-planning. Start with your goal, then think of the path you need to take to achieve your goal. Next, find out what tools, skills, and partnerships you want to make your goal attainable. Reach out to leaders, coaches, and mentors to work with you to shortcut yourself to reach your business goals faster.

Review Your Company Data

Every single month, Violet looks at her data.

She can then figure out how close she is to her milestones and goals using her data and see how she is achieving baby steps to get to her goal.

Refuting the Stereotype Narratives

“I think that many women picked up from childhood where somewhere along the way they felt they weren’t good at numbers.” And so that’s not true. It’s been proven that women are great with numbers. “I just had Stephanie on our Instagram from the Fem Global Program and she’s a financial guru. She’s proven that women are great with numbers and women are great investors.” So if you’re scared of numbers, let go of your fear and know that you can be good at numbers. If you don’t want to go there, you can always hire a bookkeeper!

Understanding Your Financial Liability

How much is going out? What are you spending dollars on? What activities bring in the most money?

You need to know these numbers because they are vital for the profitability of your business –  and that is good for everyone. So you need to know your numbers, even if they aren’t great numbers.

Then you can find out how to change what you’re doing to make your numbers better the next month to create a more sustainable business.
